What John Was Up To This Legislative Session
It was a busy session in madison! several bills that I authored were signed into law
Act 200: Protecting students from sexual misconduct by a teacher or school volunteer
Act 272: Creating an alert system for missing children who do not qualify for an Amber Alert
Act 248: Funding for Holocaust education resources
Act 159: Enhancing protections for workers in railroad maintence areas
Act 10: Defining and enhancing penalties for carjacking
Act 31: Increasing transparency in the Wisconsin Parole Commission and supporting crime victims
I also supported and was a co-author of several important bills the assembly passed
Act 12: Increasing shared revenue payments to local municipalities, supporting local law enforcement and EMS, repealing the personal property tax
Tax Cuts: three different tax cut packages that would have provided relief to middle-class families and seniors that were vetoed by the Governor
Two Constitutional Amendments to ban outside money, like Zuckerbucks, from impacting Wisconsin elections
Excluding land covered in solar panels from the Farmland Preservation Tax Credit
Act 227: Increasing training cost reimbursements for local law enforcement
Act 13: $150 million in funding for an agricultural roads grant program
As chair of the Assembly committee on criminal justice and public safety, i analyzed and approved several proposals
Act 9: Cracking down on reckless driving
Act 29: Holding fentanyl dealers accountable for overdose deaths
Grants for schools to acquire AI gun detection technology to enhance school safety
as a member of the joint committee for review of administrative rules, I stopped radical, left-wing policy items like:
Vaccine mandates for high school students
Erosion of parental rights
Last minute changes to election administration
not every bill gets signed into law. Here are some that I co-sponsored that i look forward to pushing over the finish line next session:
Low cost, full coverage health insurance for farmers
Prohibiting “gender affirming care” for minors
Funding and support to local communities to mitigate PFAS
